Our New Social Enterprise Laker Gateway CIC has been officially launched to tackle high youth employment rates coupled with a skills gap across the region in the Construction and Repairs sectors.
Laker Gateway CIC is based in Chelmsley Wood, a community that has recently suffered from negative publicity with the BBC Documentary ‘People Like Us’ however what people do not always see is the vibrant close-knit community that exists beyond often stereotypical portrayals of the communities challenge, including high youth unemployment.
Laker Gateway CIC will create real opportunities within the local area by offering paid employment and training opportunities to 16-24 year old not currently engaged in employment, education or training and will offer a package of construction training and tailored support. This can be in the form of Apprenticeships, NVQs and tailored Work Experience and Employability Packages.
With the support of Development in Social Enterprise and Solihull Borough Council Laker Gateway CIC already has plans to create a community Lodge with local Social Enterprise Gro-Organic. Haile Reed, Development Director at Laker Gateway said ‘we are so pleased to be launching Laker Gateway CIC at such an exciting time for Social Enterprises. We are extremely lucky to be based in Chelmsley Wood, and the strength of the support we have had from organisations such as Development in Social Enterpise and Gro-Organic showcases the true nature of the local community.’
