Laker begins the upgrade of its entire fleet this week following a commitment to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and improve safety for our Operatives.
The plan is part of a wider move towards the green agenda which includes the fitting of two Electric Vehicle Charging Points at our head office, as well as some of our Management Team making the move to fully electric vehicles. In addition, we have recently achieved accreditation to become a national provider of EVCP installations, supporting the national agenda to create the infrastructure needed for the move to electric.
James Lakey, Managing Director commented “We have made significant progress with our move towards working in a more environmentally conscious way and cultures are changing. Within a few months we will have one of the safest possible fleets available to us and one of the most environmentally friendly. Laker has a reputation for quality, safety and sustainability and this will be mirrored in our fleet’.
The core fleet consists of Ford Couriers and Vauxhall Combos, this represents a 95% downsize of the previous fleet in terms of size, and an increased fuel efficiency of 47%.
Considering the ultra-low emission zone in London, and Birmingham Clean Air Zone (CAZ) with other towns and cities set to follow, we are assessing the introduction of electric vans and expect (as soon as the infrastructure will allow) that more electric vehicles will be added to the fleet.
