Social Values and Community Engagement
At Laker we care passionately about the local communities that we work within and understand that community engagement and support is the key to success. We believe that if everyone has a commitment and opportunity to improve the areas in which way they live and work, this supports and creates positive change and delivers real benefits.
With our Corporate Social Responsibility Policy we are committed to supporting and working with the local community in a real and measurable way, this can be demonstrated through our recruitment and training practices, our customer liaison activities, use of local supply chains and the general ethos of the business. Our community initiatives support recruitment and engagement with local supply chains and stakeholders. They aim to underpin and generate local prosperity and bench mark a level of sustainability for the future.
We are proud to work in partnership to achieve common goals and to engage, inspire and improve community initiatives – leaving a legacy of trust, respect and opportunity.
The Public Services (Social Value Act) was passed at the end of February 2012.
Laker recognises that Social value is about maximising the impact of public expenditure. Social value considers more than just the financial transaction, it includes: happiness, wellbeing, health, inclusion and empowerment. In the pursuit of offering real value to the communities and clients we serve we offer the following initiatives;
Supporting local projects and events through sponsorship, advice or active involvement
Supporting local businesses and enterprise schemes: for example, through partnerships with
Local contractors, or by donating points from reward schemes such as Nectar cards to help
Fund community projects
Helping to create skills training, apprenticeships and employment for disadvantaged people
Helping young people find employment through skills workshops, apprenticeships and work
Experience placements, in partnership with local employment agencies
